i DID say it wasn't perfect. i always had trouble with sitting still, too. but you get in trouble if you don't do it, or if you ask too many questions or the wrong questions or whatever, depending on the teacher. they're just people, so some of them are good and some of them are bullies and it's really just down to luck, which kind you get. i had some really great teachers and some really awful ones.
plus the way the system's set up, to be so competitive and reward certain kinds of intelligence but not others, it makes a lot of people feel really bad about themselves. so the kids who get bad grades sometimes feel really hurt, and then they get resentful and want to take it out on the kids who get good grades to even things out.
so people like caitlin and me ended up skipping some grades, which meant we were always a few years younger than everyone else in our classes, and that made the other students not really like us a whole lot.
i guess it all sounds pretty strange to you. but where i'm from i guess people just... accept that that's the way things are.
