franciscoramon: (:D a masterpiece)

[ It all feels a touch surreal - the toast, the bright sharp taste of the champagne, Eddie smiling at him like that with the candlelight and his face and all those happy creases at the corners of his eyes. It's much more like something Cisco would have imagined (shamefully, embarrassed by his own desire for affection, and attention, and love) than something that could actually be true. But it is.

Cisco takes longer than usual deciding on his food because he can't concentrate on the words, keeps sneaking little glances up at Eddie, stopping to adjust his cuff or his tie or his belt. Eventually, though, he tells Eddie, and stays sitting reluctantly as Eddie orders, too, then gets up to fetch their meal. He wonders - not for the first or last time - where it came from, this desire in Eddie to help other people. Because it's not just the romance and the roses and the stuff between them: it's Eddie becoming a detective, it's the way he treats his friends and strangers alike. It's as fundamental to him as anything else.

He finishes his flute of champagne and pours a little more just as Eddie returns, setting the bottle down with a playfully guilty little grin as he raises his hands as if he were caught stealing a cookie from the cookie jar. Eddie would have poured it for him if he'd been sitting down, and Cisco thinks it's okay to tease just this little bit. It helps to cut through the small amount of awkwardness and formality, leaves Cisco feeling more at ease and comfortable. He leans forward as soon as Eddie sits back down and asks: ]

So'd I ever tell you about the first time I had champagne?
