[ And so Cisco told him - it was quite a long story, and he had to pause now and then to go back, add in a background detail or two that, while not strictly necessary, made the story complete. By the time he's finished the story he's also finished another flute of the champagne, and he is feeling a little buzzy and more relaxed. He sits back and eats his food (which is fancy in the extreme, but in a way Cisco kind of likes that - it feels right, for tonight, even if it's unfamiliar - and listens to Eddie tell his story. Of course, Eddie adds caveats of the kind Cisco would expect, that it's boring, that it's not as impressive (at which point Cisco reminds him that elaborate and impressive aren't the same) but by the end of it, the two are talking the same way they would over any other meal, on any other night.

The only difference once they get accustomed to the formal setting is that everything feels a bit sharper, a little brighter, like the saturation of the world has been cranked up. Cisco wonders if somehow, the room is responsible - surely just that small cluster of roses could not smell so strongly? Surely he is a little more giggly than he should be with the amount he's drunk? Surely Eddie shouldn't look ever so slightly like Cisco is seeing him through a soft focus lens, the kind they used in old movies.

When they've finished eating and the plates are cleared away, Cisco sets down the box with Eddie's present into the center of the table, shifting in his seat, eager and joyful. ]

Mine first.
