holo-vid sounds like it's probably similar? maybe? i don't know, never seen one.
holograms are like super cutting edge tech in my time.

It's not old fashion, but it's hard to picture? I don't know, there weren't holo-novels on Jakku, or a library. Coruscant, another planet, was the hub of a lot of information a long time ago, but I don't know about now.

Is it? I never gave it much thought. There are other planets like Hoth that's all ice and snow, complete opposite of Jakku.

I used to dream of flying...being elsewhere, and doing something different. [Being reunited with her family, playing with the little doll she made of a Rebellion fighter, or trying on an old Rebellion Pilot's helmet...just for fun. No need to mention any of that, it's a bit too personal for her.]

What was your world like? Fast pace? Changing constantly? Or did it stay the same?

i sort of invented one and used to recreate a really old crime scene we were trying to investigate
and once someone used a hologram to convince a bunch of people there were two people in a room where there was only one

hard to know how to describe it honestly. moderate paced?
not as interesting as this place. or as kind. a lot more violence and people screwing each other over, and prejudice and bullshit.
i guess changing constantly? especially recently.
about a year and a half ago there was an accident - this particle accelerator exploded in the middle of the city, and it ended up giving a bunch of people superpowers
like... the ability to run faster than the speed of sound, or control the weather, or teleport, stuff like that
so things got a little more interesting after that...

Wow, that's...incredible. You'll find the more you use holograms, it's difficult to do much else. It's very interactive, especially if you're trying to make a chart, or need to look at a map. It's all at your fingertips.

What else have you invented?

So people worked, then went home and did it all over again? That's what I'm imagining. But people with powers? That sounds like it could be a good and bad thing. Good, if they're willing to use their powers for help, and bad if it's the opposite.

Is there anyone to train them on how to use their gifts?

Trial and error, then? Makes sense, especially if no one else is around to help and you're stuck there wondering what else you could do.

[And her mind goes back to Obi-Wan and she....she has no idea where to go with that. If she should ask him what she should do...but wouldn't that be like training her? no, he said he would guide her and that would be it--which is frustrating, but that's something for another day.]

i wouldn't call myself a hero, no. i wasn't the one out there on the front lines, you know? i mean shit got dangerous occasionally sure but i was just on his team. i helped a hero.

yeah... pretty much. i mean, when the flash was learning to use his powers, my friends and i helped him out, but we weren't teachers exactly, just kind of there to provide support.

i get the impression it's scary for a lot of metas. all of sudden they have these powers, and even if they know they're from the particle accelerator, they don't know how to use them or sometimes... not use them, if they want. there were a couple of sad cases - a woman who turned everything she touched into a bomb, a guy who electrocuted people who got too close to him. it was pretty bad, for them, with no one to turn to. and other metas who didn't understand what was happening to them and just thought that were going crazy, because they didn't realize they had powers.

[ ...That very last example is, well, Cisco himself, but Rey doesn't need to know that. She's a nice girl but he's not about to go telling her he's a meta. He's getting a little more accepting of his powers, but he's not there, yet. ]

Still sounds like you're a hero, or at a least part of a team. When someone is trying to learn a new skill, they need help..support--a lot of support.

I think you're right, it would be scary to go from doing something you normally do and having it drastically change. Then trying to control it and failing again and again until you want to run away or do something else--be something else. It's a bit sad to know they don't have a group like The Flash does, to help them.

very true. i never understood the whole go-it-alone thing. everyone needs help now and then.

we did try to help them. bette and farooq - those metahumans i mentioned, with the bombs and the electricity. but we failed. both times. farooq was too far gone, too angry, and bette was murdered before we really got a chance to try properly.

[ It's not a very risky guess - most people here felt very alienated and were looking for escape, just before showing up through the portal. Cisco's learned that well by now. ]

Sometimes, there's no one to ask for help. And even then, if you're used to being on your own, it's hard to consider the notion.

i'm no expert on how the portals work, but i kinda got the idea that once they find people's worlds they can send them back to the moment they took them from?

i'm from a big city so it's not like i've been by myself in the stuck on a deserted island sense
but even in a place full of people you can end up spending too much time alone
not really having anybody near you who knows you or cares about you or even notices you exist
that kind of thing.
